I've been immersing myself in reading a few sprite comics panels from different authors daily these past two months to gain a better grasp of the reception received when putting them up. When I was younger, I thought sprite comics were the best thing since sliced bread, well at least Captain SNES the Game Master and 8bit Theater. (Just got into Bob and George recently.) But only now am I noticing a lot of negative reception towards sprite comics. I'm glad I joined the alliance first before jumping into Comic Fury with just recolours.
Two comics in particular have caught my attention and have led me to start this discussion. Both comics in question are on Drunk Duck and both seem to focus on only Pokemon comics, though they do make interesting points and from what I read in the comments started a lot of controversial discussions.
Exhibit A
This one, I find, is trying to do what the Spriters Alliance is doing, though in a very stand offish and even aggressive way. The author structurally breaks done the problems he/she (gender can be relative on the internet) sees and suggests improvements.
For awhile, it looks as if progress is being made through discussion in the comments, but I feel the author's tone towards his readers just put everyone off. Hell I don't even make Pokemon comics and I felt upset reading some of his/her stuff.
Exhibit B
Upon first glance looks to be something similar in terms of providing aid, but it soon turns into a blatant mockery of Exhibit A. Grant, some points throughout Exhibit B are spot on, though few and far between. It was more funny than helpful.
I'm glad the Spriter's Alliance is here for those who really are interested in improving their pixel skills can gather and support one another. I feel comics like those shown above can be helpful, but tend to come off as arrogant and offending, or even insulting if taken the wrong way or executed forcefully.
I did laugh out loud several times at Exhibit B just because it was just so over the top with nonsense, but its got nothing on the Spriter's Alliance.
