I use RPG Maker VX, and was wondering who else was into RPG maker? I've also have used other RPG maker versions, but don't have them any more.
Also, some people make sprite comics with RPG maker sprites! Obviously, quality varies. I just brought it up, because this is a sprite comics forum.

I actually just recently got back into using RPG Maker VX. A few years ago when me and my friend were into it we came up with all kinds of neat code for it and scenarios... Now I've completely forgot them so I'm basically starting all over again.
The coding section of it though, when you're making cutscenes (I could have made a whole movie using RPG Maker VX back in the day), is the most fun in my opinion.

There have been people who've made movies with RPG Maker, you know. I'm making a game with it, but am procrastinating a lot and going very slowly... I am going to set up a quest hall, but the way I have to event it is taking forever. And i'm using quest scripts!
What is your game like?

A typical RPG where you travel across a land and defeat an ancient evil (I suck at coming up with good storylines for medieval games).
That's what I was talking about when I said coding, the event part of it was fun and I had no trouble doing it.
I had NPCs walking around that you could talk to (some you could even fight), special events that happened if you got too close, full blown cutscenes where characters would walk around, talk about the storyline and fight using effects.
Designing the places is fun too, but I find it more tedious after a while.

I'm trying to make a modern game. Gathering resources is pretty damn hard. Lots of medievil, lots of sci-fi, not much in between. Thankfully, i've found some good modern stuff, but not nearly as much as the others.
I use events to control day/night in my game, but I followed a tutorial. Still, i'm pretty happy with myself. I want to event NPC's doing different things at different times, which should be easy.. for the most part.

It is actually really easy.
You can set their movement patterns to random or event them in using the correct tags (I forget the tags for moving) and just have them loop (there's another thing for that).
I'll see if I can find them while I type this...
> You go into the event or make a new one > Click an open event line in the window > Page 2 - Set Move Route > Set the route your event will move in > If you want it to repeat while you're playing, click "Repeat action" > Clicking "Wait for Completion" will have your player stay in one spot until the event finishes it's course.
Get creative with that and you can do just about anything with NPCs.
Everything's coming back to me as I look over the list of events. Conditional Branches were fun, these meant something had to be completed or obtained first before this branch could start. Like you need to get a necklace from a dungeon before the old man gives you the prize.

Not in cutscenes, just around the place. Maybe I should add some switches to my time system, so I can have an event page, where the condition is the switch corresponding to the time of day is on.
Conditional branches are fun to work with. My game is overloaded with them though, maybe i'm complicating things too much.

I used to get way in depth whenever I was inspired to create something in RPG Maker... I'd finish the first chapter then lose interest entirely, before my 'story' even began to unfold or anything. Spent a lot of time on maps and scripting, as well as event planning.
Might want to try it again, sometime.
I could probably help design maps, though.

I totally get losing interest. I am messing around with the Pokemon Essentials kit for RPG Maker XP, and have totally lost interest in my other project. Hopefully temporarily!
